ADULT CLASS RANKS
Rank promotions are held by sensei and occasionally by a board of black belts. Karate has two grades which are called "Dan" and "Kyu" grades. The Dan grades refer to 1st degree black belt (Sho Dan) and above while Kyu grades refer to the colored belts below Blackbelt. The Dan grades rise upwards from 1st to indicate the higher skill, but kyu grades go in reverse; thus 1st kyu immediately precedes 1st Dan. All testing students should wear clean, pressed white gis (uniforms) and follow proper karate etiquette.

Students are judged and graded on an individual basis, as the Martial Arts are an individual strive for Perfection. No two students' training/ proficiency are alike. As students increase in grade, they are judged more on attitude, courtesy, and demeanor.
Decisions concerning rank are ultimately made by the chief instructor, as his/her decision is final.
